The volcanic eruption on the Spanish island of La Palma has left four dogs trapped by lava.

Before the current reaches the animals, a local company hopes to be able to move them with a so-called cargo drone.

According to

El Periódico it

is a race against time.

Two other aid organizations have been feeding and drinking the dogs for several days.

They deliver packages with drones to keep the animals alive.

It is not possible for the local authorities to rescue the dogs.

For example, it is not possible to use helicopters, because ash and other volcanic material can then be blown up.

The local company that wants to rescue the animals is waiting for approval from local authorities to deploy the cargo drone.

The eruption, which began on September 19, has since destroyed nearly 6 square kilometers of land.

Many islanders who had to flee are unable to return.

Their houses have been destroyed and reconstruction is not possible for decades.
