Istat, household income rises but prices are holding back purchasing power

October 15, 2021The autumn sting is confirmed, with retail prices that in September, according to the definitive data released today by Istat, record a jump to + 2.5% reaching the highest levels since November 2012.
"The Istat numbers fully confirm the price increase alarm launched by Codacons and represent a threat on the consumption front - explains the president Carlo Rienzi - The 2.5% inflation produces an increase in spending on an annual basis, considering the total consumption of a household, equal to +768 euros per family, with a real peak for transport, which recorded a tendential increase of + 7% in September. A family with two children only for travel must take into account an expense greater than +378 euros per year. A flare-up in prices that threatens to slow down the growth in consumption and slow down the country's economic recovery ”.
A sting that is added with increases in the electricity and gas bills taken in October and the race without brakes on fuels.
A very strong impact on inflation, underlines the Codacons, with retail prices that will continue to rise in many sectors, including food.
"For this reason - explains President Carlo Rienzi - we appeal to the Draghi Government so that, after the energy bills, it also intervenes on the taxation that applies to petrol and diesel, cutting VAT and excise duties in order to contain the growth in prices at detail and safeguard the pockets of families ".
