There is an urgent need for the renovation of Marseille schools, many of which are in an unsanitary state.

Teachers, parents of students and representatives of the municipality expect a lot from the figures announced by Emmanuel Macron, back in Marseille on Friday a month and a half after the announcement of a vast plan for the city.

REPORTING

"Marseille en grand", the sequel: Emmanuel Macron is back in the Mediterranean city, as he had announced, to follow the evolution of his grand plan for the city.

One of its priorities concerns municipal schools, whose dilapidation requires renovations and construction of new establishments.

In this 1.2 billion euro plan, the state will pay part and the town hall the rest.

A distribution to be refined, therefore, but that many hope the fastest possible.

"The more the state will put in money ..."

There is indeed no time to waste, according to Pierre-Marie Ganozzi. "There, the project is launched", explains the deputy mayor of Marseille, in front of the backhoe loaders at work in front of the Saint-Louis school. "We quickly created a temporary prefabricated school. We are about 16 million euros worth of work." But what will the state's participation be? The chosen one hopes for a "50-50". But Emmanuel Macron has still not announced anything and the teaching staff is getting impatient.

"Hurry up," says Virginie Akliouat, of the Snes-FSU union.

"The situation is urgent and it is now time to make things happen. The investment of the State will determine the timetable. The more the State will put in money, the more the work will be able to be done quickly", explains the trade unionist. on the evolution of these renovations.

174 schools involved

Especially since there is an urgent need to act in some schools, deplore the parents.

As in Saint-Barthélémy, in the north of the city: "Because of the rats, in mid-September, we had closed kindergarten," says the mother of a student.

"For a week past, they had been nesting in the cupboards and eating the books. We found the bodies of dead rats. I wish that could be done again asap."

In total, there are 174 schools to be rebuilt, extended or renovated.

Ten or fifty years from now?

Everything will therefore depend on the funding announced by Emmanuel Macron.
