Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that he will not accept cryptocurrencies as a means of payment for energy such as natural gas, Sputnik news agency reported.

Putin said that "virtual currency could be a means of payment, but it is still unstable" and "it is too early to become a means of payment for energy sources."

Russia is one of the world's largest natural gas exporters, exporting natural gas to Europe.

"The world economy is dependent on the US economy," Putin said.

However, it was downgraded, saying, "The status of the dollar as the world's reserve currency is weakening."
