October 14, 2021 - The Polish Parliament has given the green light to the government's plan to build a wall to prevent migrants from crossing the border, a € 353 million project.

MEPs also approved an amendment that legalizes the controversial practice of push-backs at the border and makes it possible to ignore an asylum request made after illegal border crossing.

Non-governmental organizations accused the Polish executive of rejecting migrants stranded at the border, sending them back to Belarus, accused by Warsaw of channeling migratory flows and using migrants as retaliation for EU sanctions against Minsk.

The imposition of a state of emergency in the border area prevents humanitarian organizations from accessing and helping migrants.

In recent months, seven people have died along the eastern border of the European Union.
