October 14, 2021 - Arrest at the opening of the trial for the death of Giulio Regeni. According to the judges of the Third Assize Court of Rome, the proceedings of the 007 Egyptians accused of having kidnapped and killed Giulio Regeni must go back to the Gup.

The decision is linked to the absence of the defendants in the courtroom, a problem addressed in the first hearing.

No trial, therefore, to the four Egyptian 007s accused of the kidnapping, torture and death of Giulio Regeni, the 28-year-old Friulian researcher kidnapped in Cairo on 25 January 2016 and found dead on the following 3 February.

The trial of the four 007 Egyptians, accused of the kidnapping and death of Giulio Regeni, failed because, in the opinion of the Court of Assizes of Rome, "the decree that ordered the judgment had been notified to the defendants, however not present at the preliminary hearing by means of delivery of a copy of the deed to the appointed legal counsel, on the assumption that they had voluntarily withdrawn from knowledge of the proceedings ".

This is what is stated in the provision.

Therefore, we start from the preliminary hearing, aimed, if possible, at a further search of the four Egyptian 007s (whom the prosecutor would have liked to have tried in absentia) involved in the investigation into the kidnapping and death of the Friulian-born researcher.
