<Reporter> A

fire broke out in a 30-year-old residential and commercial building in Kaohsiung, Taiwan early in the morning, killing 46 people and injuring 41 others.

The fire spread quickly in the early morning hours, and the residents were concentrated on high floors, causing great damage.

It seems that it was difficult to evacuate the building where the accident occurred, as there were many elderly people living alone with limited mobility, with a monthly rent of around 100,000 won.

[Neighborhood residents: Most of the residents of this building were poor, elderly, or disabled.

I couldn't even see ordinary residents coming in and out.]

Regarding the cause of the fire, the police are investigating Hwang Mo, who was in the antique shop on the first floor of the building at dawn on the day of the fire, as a suspect.

Police believe that Mr. Hwang burned incense and drank alcohol to repel mosquitoes in the store, and threw the incense that did not go out properly in a trash can, and the fire that started here spread to a gas stove next to it and spread to a large fire, police believe.
