October 14, 2021 An estimated 3.8 million workers who have not received even a dose of vaccines and which could lead to tampon chaos to get the green pass. This is what the Gimbe Foundation weekly report highlights.

"Considering that according to Istat data relating to the fourth quarter of 2020, the employment rate in Italy in the 20-64 age group is 62.9% - reads the weekly monitoring - about 3.8 million unvaccinated workers are estimated, but the accuracy of this estimate is influenced by several variables: workers under 20 and over 64, number of employees healed in the last 6 months, number of workers exempt due to pathology, non-homogeneous distribution between the different age groups of both the employment rate and the number of unvaccinated workers and non-workers ".

From October 15, the estimated weekly need for rapid antigenic swabs is between 7.5 and 11.5 million - a far cry from the 1.2 million carried out in the week of October 6-12. According to Federfarma, about two thirds of rapid antigenic swabs are performed in private pharmacies, but of these less than half (8,331 out of about 19 thousand), as well as 327 private centers, have joined the agreement that guarantees tests at a controlled price. "To cope with the increased need for tests - explains the president of the Gimbe Foundation, Nino Cartabellotta - it is urgent both to expand the number of pharmacies and other authorized structures that adhere to the agreement, and to strengthen the activity to increase the number of tampons ".

Government must consider vaccination requirement

'Considering that the "gentle push" of the Green Pass has not produced the desired results and that from tomorrow, therefore, there is a risk of chaos, with hundreds of thousands of workers without green certification effectively unable to carry out a swab, the Government must take considering the vaccination obligation, allowing the use of the tampon to obtain the Green Pass only after booking the vaccine and up to two weeks after the administration of the first dose 'says Nino Cartabellotta, president of the Foundation.

'Politics and the world of work have to deal with some reasonable certainties'

'On the eve of October 15th, politics and the world of work have to deal with some reasonable certainties - explains Cartabellotta -. First of all, the current system that focuses on pharmacies and authorized centers will not be able to guarantee, at least in the short term, an adequate supply of rapid antigenic tampons at a controlled price; secondly, the proposals made in recent days such as extending the validity of tampons to 72 hours or allowing "do-it-yourself" tampons, in addition to having no scientific basis, present both health, medico-legal and insurance risks; finally, the 23.2% drop for the second consecutive week of new vaccinates from 493,000 to 378,000 suggests a consistent hard core of workers who do not intend to voluntarily vaccinate '.

Still 2.48 million over 50 who have not received even a dose

There are still 2.48 million over 50 who have not received even a dose of anticovid vaccine. This is what emerges from the monitoring of the Gimbe Foundation. According to the weekly monitoring, there are significant regional differences (from 14.7% in Calabria to 5.3% in Puglia). Vaccination coverage by age group with at least one dose of vaccine is highly variable: from 96.8% of the over 80s to 71.3% of the 12-19 group. In general, compared to the previous week, there are modest increases: the number of vaccinated with at least one dose increases by 1.2% in the 20-29 and 30-39 age groups, by 0.9% in the 12-19 and 40 age groups -49, 0.7% in the 50-59 range, while in the over 60s the increase does not exceed 0.3%.

389,764 third doses administered

As of October 12, 2021, 389,764 third doses of Covid-19 vaccines were administered, with a coverage rate of 5.1%, compared to a vaccinable audience of 7.6 million people, according to categories provided for by the ministerial circular of 27 September (which includes immunocompromised, over 80, guests and staff of the nursing homes, health workers over 60 or vulnerable to severe Covid-19). This is what emerges from the new monitoring of the Gimbe foundation, which underlines considerable regional differences: ranging from 18.3% in Molise to 0% in Valle D'Aosta.

Outbreak figures are all down

Meanwhile, the data of the epidemic are all decreasing: new cases drop to 18,209 from 21,060 in the previous week, deaths to 266 from 311, the currently positive ones are 82,546 from 90,299;

people in home isolation are 79,511 from 86,898;

the hospitalized with symptoms are 2,665 from 2,968 and intensive care goes to 370 from 433 in the previous survey.
