The country recorded 45,000 new cases of coronavirus contamination on Wednesday, October 13.

A level not reached since July.

If the number of daily cases has remained high for three months, hospitalizations are slowly increasing, thanks to the vaccination which reduces the risks of serious forms, according to the authorities.

Despite the alarming figures, London Underground users feel protected and have practically abandoned barrier gestures.

With our correspondent in London,

Marie Boëda

Jamie comes out of the subway and is not wearing a mask.

He stopped doing it in July

when all restrictions were lifted

.

I am not very worried you know, I am doubly vaccinated

," he explains

.

I'm careful, but I don't think the mask is that important.

 "

Almost 80% of the British population is fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

This justifies, for some, to stop wearing the mask.

And even if London transport asks to keep it, no one is watching.

If Linda is happy that life is coming back on, she did not expect an increase in contamination: "

45,000

, okay ... Maybe I should be more worried."

I'm a little angry, it's a matter of society to put on the mask.

We also protect others so we have to wear it.

 "

You have to live well

 "

Catherine is waiting on the platform, she sits down on a seat to read her newspaper.

She is careful and says that she does not yet dare to return to the theater or the cinema.

“

I hear that people catch Covid-19, even when they have received two doses and a booster

: it's scary

, she worries.

In the metro, far too many people are not wearing masks.

 "

You have to live well

", launches a passenger who almost misses his metro and who does not want any more restrictions.

As of Wednesday, October 13, 157 deaths linked to the coronavirus were listed.

That is an increase of 22% compared to last week.
