"They discussed the developments around Afghanistan and examined the launch of a high-level US-EU dialogue on Russia, as well as the next high-level meeting of the US-EU dialogue on China, which will take place later this year," the State Department said in a statement.

Also, the parties "underlined their intention to launch a special dialogue on security and defense and instructed their teams to study the scale and nature of such a dialogue."

Earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken discussed the situation in Afghanistan in the framework of telephone conversations with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
