The Berlin SPD top candidate Franziska Giffey (SPD) wants to continue exploring the chances of a new edition of the previous government alliance in the state of Berlin with the Greens and the Left.

The SPD politician announced another exploratory round for Friday on Thursday.

An exploratory paper is also to be drawn up.

Subsequently, a proposal will be made to the state executive committee of the SPD to start coalition negotiations.

In the House of Representatives election on September 26th, the SPD and the Greens became the strongest and second strongest force and want to govern together again. Giffey had considered bringing the FDP on board as a third partner instead of the left. This week, the SPD and the Greens spoke together with the FDP on Monday and then with the Left Party on Tuesday. Before these talks, Giffey had stated that the SPD had a preference for a traffic light alliance with the Greens and the FDP. The Liberals now seem out of the running for the time being.

On Thursday, Giffey wrote on Twitter: "Especially when it comes to public services, the decade of investments, tenant protection and affordable housing, social urban development, health care, transport and climate policy, the aim was to find the greatest common denominator between three partners."
