The Berlin SPD has set the course for a continuation of the red-green-red government in the federal capital.

On Friday there will be final exploratory talks with the Greens and the left, said the SPD state chairman Franziska Giffey after a meeting of the state executive committee on Thursday in Berlin.

The three parties have the greatest overlap for a promising cooperation.

The SPD considers the cooperation with the Greens and the Left "to be the most promising way" to be able to form a common and stable government in the coming years, in which the SPD can also enforce its priorities.

The question of how much of its program the SPD could implement in a future partnership "was our guiding principle," said Giffey.

On Friday, the explorations with the Greens and the Left are to be continued in order, according to Giffey, "to further sound out the points that have not yet been clarified".

The aim is then to come to a conclusion and to present an exploratory paper.

On this basis, a proposal should then be made to the SPD state executive to start coalition negotiations.

Last week, the Berlin SPD had initially discussed individually with the Greens, CDU, Left and FDP in two rounds.

The Social Democrats then met in three-party constellations - with the Greens and the Left, as well as with the Greens and the FDP.

The SPD won the election for the House of Representatives in the capital, clearly ahead of the Greens and the CDU.
