A small fire that broke out yesterday afternoon did not prevent the launch of the El Gouna Film Festival in Egypt.

The festival administration confirmed that it will be held in El Gouna on its date, which begins today, Thursday.

The festival is being held this time without an opening movie, and perhaps this is a decision more consistent with the nature of the festival, which only major Egyptian stars attend the opening ceremony, who are not interested in actually watching a movie after the ceremony, and it remains a movie that no one attended.

But the actual film screenings of the festival will start from the next day, as the festival program is filled with a large number of the most important international films that are expected to be watched enthusiastically by critics and journalists, and a small number of invited stars who only attend the first screenings of Arab films in an undisclosed agreement.

"The French delegation" and some of the most important stars:

The El Gouna Festival is proud to present the film "The French Dispatch" directed by Wes Anderson and starring a very large number of stars, including Timothée Chalamet, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Bill Murray, and others.

The events of the film are divided into 3 dramatic lines, and revolve mainly in the French foreign office of a fictional newspaper in Kansas, and the film was supposed to be shown at the Cannes Film Festival in the 2020 session, which was canceled as a result of the new Corona virus, to be shown in the next session in 2021, and it will be shown commercially On October 22nd.

So far, the film has achieved an average of 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, where critics praised the general atmosphere, lightness and vitality that prevail in the film and the rest of the films of the director, who is considered one of the most famous in the world.

He loses the Palme and wins the Golden Lion

The artistic departments of the festivals are racing to attract the major prize-winning films, on top of which is the Palme d'Or from Cannes, of course, which the El Gouna Festival obtained in the past years, but this year the movie "Titan" lost and will not be shown in its activities, but it was obtained from the festival. On several works from the official competition, as well as the movie "Compartment No.6", which won the Grand Prize, the movie "feathers" by Egyptian director Omar Zuhairi, who won the Critics Week and Fibersi award, and the movie "Murina", which won the Golden Camera. The film "Playground", which won the Viberian Award for the section "In Seren Regard", and "The Worst Person in the World", which won the best actress award, and "Nitram", which won the best actor award, and the award-winning movie “Unclenching the Fists.”Sirtin Regaard.

The El Gouna Festival was more fortunate than the Venice Film Festival of this world, which took place well before El Gouna to attract his films, after postponing the usual date of El Gouna from September to mid-October, which gives the opportunity to end the famous Venice Festival, and obtained from him the Golden Lion-winning film Happening by Audrey Dewan, Horizon-winning film The Blind Man Who Did Not Want to See Titanic and White Building Building) Award Winner for Best Actor.

While the share of the Berlin Festival was less than the rest of the festivals, El-Gouna received the Silver Bear award-winning film "Natural Light".

The Red Sea Festival and the Saudi Competition

In recent years, after the cancellation of both the Dubai Film Festival and the Abu Dhabi Festival - the two largest film festivals that pumped money - the field has become open to competition only between the El Gouna Film Festival and the Cairo Film Festival, where each competes to obtain the most important films, a race between the money authority from El Gouna, the authority of the reputation and fame enjoyed by the most prestigious Cairo Festival in the region.

However, this balance area was disturbed by the entry of a third festival to the Middle East, which is the “Red Sea Festival” in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, whose first session was canceled last year as a result of the Corona virus pandemic, and its session will be held this year after the end of the Cairo International Film Festival session directly, and it certainly competed for The most important films that were shown during the year, with a huge budget behind him, makes the El Gouna Festival, according to the statements of the festival's president, Entisal Al-Tamimi, modest by his side.

In the coming years, this competition will appear more, especially with the Red Sea Festival's support for the Arab film industry in the pre-production stages, meaning that it will contribute to the production of the most important Arab films, and therefore will be shown during its activities, and the rest of the festivals will fight to get even Arab films.
