A pearl testing laboratory at the Bahrain Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai

Upon entering the pavilion of the Kingdom of Bahrain at Expo 2020 Dubai, the visitor sees a small laboratory for examining pearls as one of the gemstones for which Bahrain's trade was famous and made it a prosperous commercial center in the region.

Fatima Al-Mahmoud, a specialist in pearl and gemstone examination from the Bahrain Institute for Pearl and Gem Examination “Danat”, said: “We brought a small laboratory at the pavilion of the Kingdom of Bahrain participating in the “Expo 2020 Dubai” exhibition to familiarize visitors with the difference between natural and agricultural pearls, as well as the difference between pearls from salt and fresh water. .

She pointed out that the Bahrain Institute for Pearls and Gemstones Examination is a research center specialized in the study of natural pearls and precious stones, in addition to its role in issuing reports and permits for the results of the process of examining pearls and natural precious stones, given that Bahrain prevents trade in cultured pearls, which is the reason for which "Danat" was established in 2017. Reflects the extent of interest in natural pearls as a legacy inherited between generations in the Kingdom.

It is noteworthy that Bahraini pearls are considered one of the finest types of pearls in the world. The history of pearl fishing in Bahrain extends back to more than 5,000 years.
