The "France 2030" plan includes four billion euros of support for the automotive and aeronautical sectors, a significant part of which should be devoted to the deployment of charging stations, explained the Minister of Transport Jean-Baptiste Djebbari in an interview with the AFP Tuesday.

Q: How will this plan help the automotive industry to electrify its offer?

A: "Decarbonizing transport means decarbonizing the vehicle fleet as a priority. We include plug-in hybrids, but the reality of the market is to move towards battery-electric vehicles.

What we have started to do with the recovery plan and will continue with this investment plan is to support manufacturers on their offer of electric vehicles, also with the help of financial devices that are not in the market. plan as the purchase bonus.

The manufacturers have made the strategic choice to relocate their production.

We have lost part of the French industrial footprint.

And we weren't able to be leaders in the big transitions.

Q: How will the plan accelerate the deployment of charging stations?

A: "Today we are in a satisfactory situation, which still requires us to continue our efforts. We were at 400,000 terminals at the start of the year, on August 1 we had 710,000, and we will have a million at the end. of the year, for individuals and companies.

Half of the service areas will have been equipped by the end of this year and all of the areas by the end of 2022.

There remains one point of accentuation of the effort: the terminals open to the public.

To be at the right level of equipment in the territory, 15,000 terminals are missing by 2025.

This plan finances these terminals in particular via public financing, with the private sector.

The objective is to install high-power stations on public roads ".

Q: What are your goals for the airline industry?

A: "There are two objectives for the transition and the decarbonisation of air transport, the first is indeed the Corac, research on aeronautical construction, to develop a new generation of low-carbon planes. That's all. what you know and which sometimes already flies, electric planes, hybrid planes, tomorrow hydrogen planes in the broad sense (...)

The second part is what we call alternative fuels to kerosene, these are experiments that are currently taking place: we flew a plane between Nice and Paris two weeks ago with 30% biofuel.

This is a double issue around the rapid decarbonisation of air transport, because it is ultimately the most mature sector, and at the scale of the life cycle you can easily reduce emissions by around 90%. air transport.

It is a lasting solution for the long haul.

In the state of science, it will be difficult to offer an alternative with a new generation of aircraft, and above all, it is a new industry in a circular economy that can be implemented everywhere in the territories because it is is really the recycling of used oils, agricultural and forestry residues, tomorrow hydrogen recombined with CO2.
