Europe 1 Studio SEASON 2021 - 202207h00, October 13, 2021

In 1386 the famous judicial duel took place for the honor of Marguerite de Carrouges, recounted in the film "The last duel" by Ridley Scott, released in theaters this Wednesday, October 13. But what places do women really occupy in medieval society? How did some women escape male domination? In this new episode of the Europe 1 Studio podcast "At the heart of History", Clémentine Portier-Kaltenbach details the condition of women in the 14th century.

We often imagine the women of the Middle Ages as entirely subject to the authority of men, yet some escaped this domination.

From the middle of the 14th century, the permanent state of war and the absence of men changed the role of women.

In this new episode of the Europe 1 Studio podcast "At the heart of History", Clémentine Portier-Kaltenbach explains how they had to act on their own to defend the fortresses and hold the sieges.
