Half an hour after the award of the prize, the Kremlin, through the voice of Dmitry Peskov, hailed the "courage" and "talent" of Dmitry Muratov.

But Vladimir Putin's spokesperson also said he did not know whether the Russian president would congratulate him personally.

In a context of increased repression against the independent media, most often bearing the infamous seal of "foreign agents" moreover, the Russian head of state was questioned on this subject, during a forum on energy in Moscow.

If he does not infringe Russian law, if he does not give any reason justifying being declared a foreign agent, then that will not happen,

" Vladimir Putin assured.

But if he intends to use his Nobel Prize as a shield to do what is against Russian law, that will mean he is doing it knowingly to draw attention to himself or for some other reason.

Whatever their merit, everyone must understand this: it is necessary to submit to Russian laws.

 "

On the same day the Nobel Prize was awarded, the Russian Ministry of Justice entered nine additional people and three organizations in the Russian register of foreign agents, including seven journalists.
