  According to the announcement issued by the European Union’s External Action Agency that day, on October 14, Borrell will meet with US Secretary of State Brinken to exchange views on current foreign policy issues, deepening the strategic partnership between Europe and the United States, and advancing European and American diplomatic and security cooperation; 14 Later that day, Borrell will meet with U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Hicks to start consultations on strengthening European and American security and defense cooperation.

  The announcement stated that Borrell’s visit will focus on European-American relations and is intended to advance the transatlantic cooperation agenda and respond to the urgent international situation. During the visit, Borrell will emphasize that Europe and the United States “form a strong alliance” to deal with the new crown pneumonia pandemic and economic recovery.
