With our correspondent in Stockholm,

Frédéric Faux

He is a former Swedish leader who organized a first conference in Stockholm in 2000 on the remembrance of the Holocaust.

Twenty-one years later, the idea is therefore to find new means to maintain this memory, and to fight against contemporary anti-Semitism.

This is what the President of the European Council, the Belgian Charles Michel, recalled: “

This duty to never forget is incumbent on us Europeans.

But remembering is not enough.

As the last Holocaust survivors leave us, anti-Semitism resurfaces.

We must act, we must react, now

.

"

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, who will step down next month, has made the fight against anti-Semitism one of his last great fights, promising to better protect Sweden's 15,000 to 20,000 Jews.

And from this point of view, the choice of Malmö to host this conference is significant.

This cosmopolitan city, the gateway for migrants to Sweden, is often presented as the most anti-Semitic in the country.

Jews who openly display their religion are threatened.

In 2020, during a demonstration, calls for the murder of Jews were made.

Result: the Jewish community of Malmö is melting.

They would be only a few hundred.
