In recent years, Poland has been criticized by the European Commission for the functioning of the judiciary.

Among other things, the Commission demands that Poland stop the Judicial Disciplinary Board set up by its Supreme Court, as it considers it a threat to the independence of the judiciary.

Poland has also received criticism from several quarters after the Polish Constitutional Court ruled that certain parts of the EU Treaty are contrary to the Polish Constitution.

The decision is controversial because EU member states must comply with the EU Treaty.

- There are three methods the EU can use to get a member state to follow the fundamental values in the union, says Karin Leijon, political scientist at Uppsala University.

It is mainly about "Article 7", the European Court of Justice and the "condition mechanism", in the video she explains how the different methods work.
