The death toll from landslides and flash floods caused by storm Compasso in the Philippines has risen to 13, with eight more people still missing, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency in Manila said yesterday.

The latest victims are a 35-year-old woman who died in a landslide, and a 52-year-old man who drowned in floods in the northern province of Ilocos Sur, the agency said.

And earlier landslides and floods killed six people in Benguet province near Ilocos province, one person in Cagayan province, and four others in Palawan province in the western Philippines.

The Bureau of Meteorology said Compasso had left the Philippines and was heading to China.

But the bureau warned that landslides and flash floods could continue to occur in the areas hit by Compasso due to the "high soil moisture saturation" from the torrential rains brought by the storm.

The Meteorological Office said that Compasso maintained its strength, and was accompanied by continuous winds at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour, with tornadoes and gusts of up to 125 kilometers per hour.
