It is a vast net that was carried out in Seine-Maritime and Seine-Saint-Denis as part of a judicial investigation for drug trafficking and criminal association.

Opened in September 2019 and led by a judge from Bobigny, it led to nineteen arrests on Friday, including the mayor PS and one of his deputies from the town of Canteleu, on the outskirts of Rouen.

Eleven people in total were indicted by the examining magistrate, the Bobigny prosecutor's office announced on Wednesday.

Like six other people, the two elected officials saw their custody lifted over the weekend.

"It will be up to the examining magistrate to assess the follow-up to be given concerning these people with regard to the elements collected within the framework of the judicial investigation", indicates in a press release Eric Mathais, public prosecutor of Bobigny.

The mayor says she has "no connection" with the traffickers

During a press conference on Monday, the mayor of Canteleu Mélanie Boulanger felt that his placement in police custody was “not justified” and insisted that he had “no connection” with drug traffickers in his town of 15,000 inhabitants. The eleven indicted have generally been heads of criminal associations and linked to drug trafficking, according to the prosecutor. The majority have been remanded in custody. Eight of them are domiciled in Normandy and three in the Paris region.

In a first press release published on Friday, Eric Mathais announced that the searches had "made it possible to seize 15 kg of heroin, 25 kg of cutting products, firearms and the sum of 375,000 euros".

On Monday, the vehicle of an M6 team that came to report in Canteleu on this investigation was violently attacked with iron bars and projectiles while the journalists were inside.

A complaint has been filed.
