A 16-year-old minor, prosecuted for violently hitting a referee and uttering racist insults, was referred to the Béziers public prosecutor's office.

He was immediately brought before a juvenile judge.

Which ordered a provisional judicial educational measure pending trial, scheduled for December 2.

On October 2 in Marseillan, he allegedly assaulted the referee who had just refused to hold an official football match, failing to present the health pass for several players of the local club, in application of the health rules applicable in the matter.

“The minor also treated him as a“ dirty Arab ”in the presence of other players,” explains the public prosecutor of Béziers, Raphaël Balland.

Excluded by his club and subject to disciplinary proceedings

The case caused a stir in the world of local amateur football.

The Marseillan club for its part decided to exclude the player.

Disciplinary proceedings were also opened.

He risks several years of suspension.

In particular, the law provides for a maximum penalty of 3 years' imprisonment for any violence committed against a referee during an official match.

Regarding racist public insults, the law provides for a maximum penalty of one year and a fine of 45,000 euros.

The maximum penalties incurred are halved in the case of a minor.
