The Palme d'Or "Titane", directed by Julia Ducournau, is the film chosen to represent France at the Oscars, announced the CNC.
Its 37-year-old director was crowned at Cannes in July for this genre film, mixing woman / machine hybridization, love for cars and the quest for paternity.
It features a newcomer, Agathe Rousselle, and French actor Vincent Lindon, as a firefighter on steroids.
Forbidden to under 16s, and released just before the introduction of the health pass, "Titane" attracted more than 300,000 spectators in French theaters.
Its distributors have also welcomed its start in early October in American theaters, where it exceeded one million dollars in box office receipts in ten days.
"Titane" was in the running with two other films to represent France in the best international feature film category at the Oscars: "L'Événement", by Audrey Diwan, Lion d'Or in Venice and "Bac Nord", by Cédric Jimenez .
The 94th Academy Awards are scheduled for March 27 in Los Angeles.
The commission which chose the candidate film brought together several professionals under the aegis of the CNC, including the directors Julie Delpy and Florian Zeller and the general delegate of the Cannes festival Thierry Frémaux.
Last year, the film "Deux" by Filippo Meneghetti was presented by France but then did not pass the bar of preselections by the Academy of Oscars.
