The project with the wetland park is a collaboration between the city of Västerås and Mälarenergi that has cost almost SEK 30 million.

With a grant from the EU project Life IP Rich Waters, the purpose of which is to improve the water quality in lakes and watercourses.

The approximately 20 football pitches large park is mainly there to purify water but is also there for the people of Västerås to have a place to hang out.

Around the park there are several walkways and a barbecue area.

Parking, a bus line and planned cycle paths will increase accessibility to the park.

- The best thing about the park is that it will be a place for us here in Västerås to hang out and grill sausages, have a picnic or play fireball or whatever you want to do, says Susanna Hansen, water coordinator at Västerås city.

Watch Susanna Hansen talk about the purpose of the park and Gustav Myhrman about the purification process in the clip above.
