A 28-year-old man was sentenced on Monday to a 60-day fine at 7 euros by the Avignon Criminal Court (Vaucluse).

In September 2020, he insulted the President of the Republic in a message sent via the contact system of the Elysee site.

The defendant had invited the head of state to end his life before threatening him with death.

"I was in psychological distress"

An investigation had been opened and the criminal police force had been seized.

The search of the young man's home had given nothing.

During his trial, the respondent spoke of professional and family difficulties related to confinement.

“I was in psychological distress.

[…] I did that out of anger, today I wouldn't write that, ”he explained to the magistrates, according to our colleagues.

He wanted to share his discomfort with Emmanuel Macron: "He had to know".
