Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China: As a province of China, Taiwan is not eligible to join the United Nations

China News Service, Beijing, October 12 (Reporter Xing Chong) In response to the deliberate misrepresentation of UN General Assembly Resolution No. 2758 by individual politicians in Taiwan recently, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian stated at a regular press conference on the 12th that the UN General Assembly’s No. 2 Resolution 2758 embodies internationally recognized legal facts. As a province of China, Taiwan is not eligible to join the United Nations at all.

A reporter asked. Recently, individual politicians in Taiwan have repeatedly "submitted" foreign media, deliberately distorting UNGA Resolution No. 2758, claiming that this resolution "does not determine Taiwan's representative power, and does not even mention Taiwan in it." He also presumptuously claimed that it was inappropriate to use this resolution to prevent Taiwan from joining the United Nations, and that "striving to participate in the United Nations is the common expectation of all people."

What is China's comment?

Zhao Lijian responded that the remarks made by individual politicians in Taiwan were unreasonable.

On the Taiwan-related issues of the UN General Assembly, China has stated its position many times.

Zhao Lijian once again emphasized China's position from three aspects.

First, there is only one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory, and the government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. This is a basic fact recognized by the international community.

China’s adherence to the one-China position will not change. China’s opposition to “two Chinas” and “one China, one Taiwan” and “Taiwan independence” cannot be challenged. China’s determination to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity is unwavering.

Second, the United Nations is an intergovernmental international organization composed of sovereign states.

The General Assembly Resolution No. 2758 passed in 1971 has completely resolved the issue of China’s representation in the United Nations politically, legally and procedurally.

The United Nations system, specialized agencies, and the United Nations Secretariat should follow the one-China principle and Resolution 2758 of the United Nations General Assembly in any affairs involving Taiwan.

"Taiwan, as a province of China, is not eligible to join the United Nations at all." Zhao Lijian said that the practice over the years has fully demonstrated that the United Nations and the general membership recognize that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory and fully respect China. Exercise sovereignty over Taiwan.

Third, the General Assembly Resolution No. 2758 embodies internationally recognized legal facts.

"In black and white, the Taiwan authorities and anyone are not allowed to deny and misrepresent wanton, and any form of'Taiwan independence' road will not succeed." Zhao Lijian said that the international hype of this issue by individuals in Taiwan is a blatant challenge to the one-China principle. And serious provocation is a flagrant violation of UN General Assembly Resolution No. 2758 and a typical "Taiwan independence" remark, which is firmly opposed.

This statement is also destined to have no market in the international arena.

"We believe that the just cause of the Chinese government and the Chinese people to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, oppose secession, and realize national reunification will certainly continue to receive the understanding and support of the United Nations and the general membership." Zhao Lijian said.
