In Libya, Parliament passed a law on Monday granting aid of around $ 10,000 to each family.
The House of Representatives announced the unanimous vote of this aid of 50,000 dinars per family without specifying the date of application of the measure.
This vote comes two months after the announcement of the transitional government, based in Tripoli, to grant a "marriage bonus" of 40,000 dinars (6,900 euros) to 25,000 couples celebrating their union by the end of the year.
The latter were also excluded from the family allowance adopted on Monday by the deputies.
A political crisis not over
Besides these couples, "all Libyan families are eligible" for the allowance, said parliament spokesman Abdallah Bliheq.
The number of eligible families is around 1.7 million.
The Libyan Parliament is headed by Aguila Saleh, a political figure from the eastern region of Cyrenaica and political opponent of the interim Prime Minister Abdelhamid Dbeibah.
Libya is trying to extricate itself from a major political crisis that has persisted since the fall of the former regime in 2011, led by dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
After years of armed conflict and regional divisions, a new interim government was appointed in early 2021 under the auspices of the UN, to lead the transition by a crucial presidential election set for December 24.
