The former AfD boss Frauke Petry has been found guilty of subsidy fraud, breach of trust and tax evasion.

The Leipzig Regional Court sentenced 46-year-old Petry to pay a fine of 9,000 euros on Tuesday.

The proceedings concerned funding that Petry had applied for in 2014 to advise her company at the time.

In reality, however, she is said to have used the money to settle bills that had accrued in the process of her personal bankruptcy.

The doctor of chemistry was the managing director of a company that had sold a mixture to protect against flat tires. Petry developed the product together with her mother, who is also a chemist. But the company ran into problems in the highly competitive automotive supplier market, had to file for bankruptcy once and then started again with new shareholders. Petry himself had to file for personal bankruptcy. Your advisor at the time started the process with an advertisement.

The Leipzig District Court acquitted the former member of the state and Bundestag in 2020 in the first instance.

However, the public prosecutor's office had appealed and this time demanded a fine of 12,000 euros.

Petry reacted indignantly to the judgment of the district court.

Her husband Marcus Pretzell, who had represented her as defense attorney, said when asked whether she would appeal on a point of law: "You can assume that!"
