The latest installment of James Bond's adventures, "Die Can Wait", started off on the hats (of an Aston Martin DB5) to take first place at the North American box office with $ 55.3 million, according to figures released Monday by the specialist firm Exhibitor Relations.

In the film, Daniel Craig's final participation in the saga, the famous British spy invented by the writer Ian Fleming comes out of retirement to face his best enemies: Blofeld, the SPECTER organization and especially the dreaded Safin (Rami Malek).

"Venom: Let There Be Carnage", produced by Sony, comes in second, pocketing $ 31.8 million for its second week of operation, for a tidy total of 141 million in two weeks.

The film tells how an investigative journalist, played by Briton Tom Hardy, who is given superpowers by an alien parasite, tries to stop a serial killer (Woody Harrelson) who escaped from prison after merging with a another alien parasite.

"The Addams Family 2: A Hell's Spree", the adventures of the terrifying and crazy family, settles on the third step of the podium with 10.1 million.

Fourth follows "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings", the first of Marvel Studios to have an Asian director (Destin Daniel Cretton) and a cast also dominated by Asian stars, which amassed 4.3 million.

Then "Many Saints Of Newark - A History of the Sopranos", which traces the youthful years of the famous mafioso Tony Soprano, from the cult eponymous television series, is placed in fifth position, collecting only 1.4 million in the second week.

The action comedy "Free Guy" retains sixth place in the charts for its ninth week on screens, with $ 1.2 million for a total of nearly $ 120 million since its release.
