- The hope is that we will have a pleasant center where the birds do not pick food out of our hands.
Because it has happened that you could have a bird that snatched the ice cream from the children's hand, says Malin Engström, head of the technical administration in Växjö municipality.
Action plan designed
The municipality has for a long time received a lot of complaints about birds in the center.
Therefore, an action plan has been drawn up to overcome the winged problems.
Together with property owners and businesses, the municipality has enlisted the help of pest control officers to design the plan.
- It's about not throwing rubbish on the ground, changing trash cans so that what we throw away stays in there and that the birds do not have access to it.
That it is taken away at outdoor cafes and to check the roofs of properties, says Malin Engström.
Scarecrow set up
As part of reducing the number of birds in the city center, a new type of scarecrow has also been set up in several places in the city center.
- It should be some kind of sound that is like a kind of predatory sound for them so they do not want to sit here.
And we see this year that we have less problems with birds than we had last year.
But we do not really know what the reason for it is, but we must see it in a longer perspective so that we can evaluate, says Malin Engström.
