The Ministry of Community Development revealed that the number of family consultations requested by members of the public from the ministry's team of specialists increased by 100% during the first half of this year, compared to last year, noting that marital disputes topped the list of problems.
The Director of the Family Development Department at the Ministry of Community Development, Alia Al Joker, told «Emirates Today»: "The number of family consultations provided during the current year, in the first six months of the year, amounted to about 533 consultations, which increased by an increase of 100%, compared to what was recorded. During the first half of last year 2020, which amounted to 285 family consultations.
Al-Joker added that "the most prominent types of problems are marital disputes, and then family problems came in second place, then educational problems, and social problems came in fourth place."
She stressed that most families have become more aware of resorting to the family counselor to resolve family disputes, and this led to a noticeable increase in the number of counseling provided, and the Ministry worked during the “Covid-19” period to develop channels that facilitate linking the public with family counselors, which led to Significant increase in the number of beneficiaries of the service.
Al-Joker stated that counseling is provided by highly qualified family counselors and specialists, adding that "the ministry is cooperating with the authorities concerned with the family and society, to provide family counselors who are able to provide counseling service to all members of society professionally and confidentially in accordance with the controls."
She revealed that "the number of family consultations provided by the ministry during 2018 reached 273 consultations, while in 2019 it amounted to 386 consultations," noting that the number doubled in 2020, compared to the previous year, reaching 685 consultations.
Al-Joker expected the number to double by the end of 2021, compared to the total number of the previous year, pointing out that the increase is related to the ministry's creation of a set of channels to connect the public with family counselors specialized in the field of family counseling, as part of the "Ta'alouf" initiative for family counseling.

The Ta’alouf family counseling service is provided through four channels, including the hotline service on the number 800623, available daily from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, except on Fridays and Saturdays.
The Ministry of Community Development stated that "Ta'alouf", which made counseling easier and faster to reach the family, focuses on dialogue with the counsellor, which contributes to the dissemination of knowledge and rehabilitation at the level of the individual and society, in an effort to enhance family stability in every home.
