Al-Sisi discusses with the President of South Sudan the Nile water issue

Today, Sunday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed that his country will remain a strong support for the brothers in South Sudan, noting that talks with South Sudan President Salva Kiir touched on the issues of the Nile waters.

In a joint press conference with Salva Kiir at the Federal Palace in Cairo on Sunday, Sisi said that he and the President of South Sudan held intensive discussions on various economic, political and social fields.

Al-Sisi added: “I would like to express my deep pride in the interest of our two countries in developing and strengthening relations between them.”

He continued, "We agreed on the periodicity of convening the joint committee between Egypt and South Sudan in the coming period," explaining that Egypt affirms its full support for President Salva Kiir's efforts to achieve stability and development.

In turn, Salva Kiir said that he spoke on several issues with the Egyptian president regarding the region, pointing out that "we have a problem in the region between Ethiopia, Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan."

He pointed out that the Prime Minister of Ethiopia talked about conducting negotiations with the Tigray People's Liberation Front by this October, which did not happen.

Salva Kiir added that he agreed with Sisi on many issues, stressing that Sudan is facing turmoil and no one is helping him.

Hamza Balloul, Minister of Culture and Information, and the official spokesman for the Sudanese government, said on the fourth of this month that the port of Sudan, which borders the Red Sea in the east of the country, and the access road to it has been closed for more than two weeks by members of the Beja, the largest ethnic group in eastern Sudan.
