On Friday morning, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced that Maria Ressa from the Philippines and Dmitry Muratov from Russia will receive this year's Peace Prize for their efforts for press freedom.

A revelation that pleases Foreign Minister Ann Linde (S):

- They are brave and work in difficult environments, both in the Philippines and Russia.

It really is the right price.

says Foreign Minister Ann Linde (S).

Have visited the magazine myself

According to the Foreign Minister, the outcome could mean that there will be more talk about journalists' opportunity to work.

For example, in Russia, where Muratov works for the newspaper Novaya Gazeta.

- It is a newspaper that I myself have visited on several occasions and where journalists have had to pay with their lives for reporting, Linde says.

Not surprised

Many have speculated that the peace prize would go to something with connections to the climate or the pandemic.

However, the Foreign Minister is not surprised that the outcome was different:

- I had probably guessed that it would go to something that had to do with freedom of speech.

During the UN General Assembly, for example, we had a large seminar together with Reporters Without Borders and the French Government, which addressed precisely these issues.

In international contexts, it has been very discussed during the spring, says Linde.
