Russia on Saturday recorded a new record of 968 daily deaths.

The epidemic wave has been carried by the Delta variant since the summer against the backdrop of a very laborious vaccination campaign.

In recent days, the country has already broken its daily death record several times.

The government count officially reaches 215,453 dead, making Russia the most bereaved country in Europe.

But the real toll is much heavier.

The Rosstat statistics institute, which has a broader definition of deaths due to Covid-19, reported more than 400,000 deaths to it on Friday at the end of August.

The Fiji Islands will ease the restrictions put in place to fight Covid-19 and announce their reopening to international travelers, the government announced on Saturday, thanks to the progress of the vaccination campaign.

Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama said details of the easing of restrictions would be unveiled on Sunday afternoon, now that 80% of the adult population has received both doses of the vaccine.

Tourism represents 40% of the economy in Fiji.

- Togo: reopening of places of worship -

The Togolese government authorized Friday evening the reopening of churches, mosques and voodoo temples, closed since September 10 because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Taking into account the contaminations in our country and after the exchanges with the actors, places of worship are authorized to open", underlined the minister of the territorial administration.

Genesis had to postpone the last UK concerts of their "The Last Domino? Tour" due to cases of Covid-19 in the rock band led by singer Phil Collins.

The remaining four UK concerts were scheduled for Friday night in Glasgow and October 11, 12 and 13 in London.

The midfielder of the French football team Adrien Rabiot, tested positive for Covid-19, has been "placed in isolation" and will not be able to play in the League of Nations final on Sunday against Spain, announced the French Federation on Saturday.

- More than 4.8 million dead -

The pandemic has killed at least 4,838,744 people around the world since the end of December 2019, according to a report established on Saturday at 10 a.m. GMT by AFP from official sources.

The WHO estimates, taking into account the excess mortality directly and indirectly linked to Covid-19, that the results of the pandemic could be two to three times higher.
