This year, 329 candidacies had been presented and among the favorites were also the Belarusian opposition or the World Health Organization in a year still marked by the coronavirus pandemic.

On the list of candidates to replace the World Food Program (WFP), awarded last year, also included militants in the fight against climate change such as Greta Thunberg, the anti-corruption group Transparency International or the Russian opponent Alexei Navalny.

The award, which consists of a diploma, a gold medal and a check for 10 million crowns (980,000 euros), is usually awarded on December 10, the anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel (1833-1896).
