The UAE participates in the 11th Ministerial Meeting of the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum

The UAE participated with a delegation headed by His Excellency Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State, in the eleventh ministerial meeting of the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum, chaired by the Kingdom of Morocco and Canada, with the participation of many delegations representing member states of the forum.

In his speech, Al-Marar stressed the importance of the meeting, which was held virtually to follow up the progress made in the efforts to combat extremism and terrorism, and in strengthening global action to confront this scourge, praising the Forum's achievements and the efforts made by all its active members during the past decade.

Al Marar said: "The UAE looks forward with optimism to the next decade of the forum, which will undoubtedly contribute to strengthening the eradication of the scourge of terrorism by strengthening international efforts, including the exchange of best practices and experiences, and building partnerships and alliances to reach common goals."

Al-Marar stated that terrorism is a complex phenomenon, and therefore the strategy adopted by the international community must challenge extremism and terrorism at every stage, especially as terrorist groups and circles sponsoring terrorism constantly change and develop their methods to spread their ideologies, finance their activities and recruit individuals.

He stressed that care must be taken to develop a comprehensive legal framework that ensures the modernization of anti-terrorism laws and the criminalization of its financing on an ongoing basis, and to take joint measures and measures to ensure the detection and accountability of individuals, organizations and entities supporting and financing terrorism.

Al Marar added: "Combating extremism and terrorism goes beyond the military dimension and requires continuing work to eliminate this scourge that knows no borders, religion or race." and pluralism to prevent extremism and terrorism.

Al Marar stressed the UAE’s keenness to establish and support many institutions specialized in this field. For example, the Council of Muslim Elders, through an independent group of senior Muslim scholars, works to remove the causes of division and difference between societies, pointing to the importance of the Abrahamic Peace Agreement between The UAE and Israel to spread peace, promote tolerance and coexistence, and achieve stability and prosperity for the entire region.

It is worth noting that the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum was established in 2011 and its 30 members gather to enhance international cooperation in the fight against terrorism and make the international structure more effective in confronting the changing terrorist threat.. The UAE chaired the Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Working Group in 2011 in partnership with The United Kingdom until 2017, as the Working Group focuses on reducing radicalization and recruitment to terrorism through international, regional, national and local approaches to countering violent extremism.
