06 October 2021The Rome Film Fest this year will be full of big international names, such as Lifetime Achievement Awards Tim Burton and Quentin Tarantino, with 23 films in the Official Selection from 23 different countries, including the Italian "L'Arminuta "by Giuseppe Bonito, and a very strong female presence, with twenty-two female directors.

The president of the Fondazione Cinema per Roma, Laura Delli Colli, at the presentation of this edition, which will be held from 14 to 24 October, defined it as "an international party with a pop soul". The artistic director of the Festa Antonio Monda illustrated the very rich program at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, underlining that the fil rouge of this sixteenth edition will be "the stories of courage, with people who have opposed accusations and abuses", as, for example, the one told in the documentary "Muhammad Ali".

The opening film "The eyes of Tammy Faye" will bring the American actress Jessica Chastain to Rome, who plays the role of the famous evangelist television preacher. An Oscar-nominated role, according to Monda, which points to two other films that will be at the Festival as likely nominees for the statuette: "C'mon c'mon" by Mike Mills, with Joaquin Phoenix playing an emotionally stuck radio reporter who travels to the United States to interview children about what they think of the world and the future, and Rebecca Hall's "Passing", set in New York in the late 1920s. And again on the subject of the Oscars, the closing film of the Festival, in collaboration with Alice nella città, will be "Eternals", directed by Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao.

Other films in the Official Selection include: Joe Wright's "Cyrano", Zhang Yimou's "One second", Amanda Sthers' "Pomises" with Pierfrancesco Favino, Kelly Reilly and Jean Reno, and Carine Tardieu's "Les jeunes amants" with Fanny Ardant, who will be guest of the Festa. Italy in this edition, as well as with "L'arminuta", will be present with important films and series especially in the Special Events section: from "Vita da Carlo", the Amazon Prime series on Carlo Verdone, on Zerocalcare's film "Strappare along the edges", on Gabriele Muccino's series "A casa tutti bene", on Pif's film "We as assholes remained to watch". Many biographies this year: from the film about the De Filippo brothers by Sergio Rubini, to "Caterina Caselli - A hundred lives "by Renato De Maria, to" Benny Benassi - Equipoise "on the DJ and the Italian history of dance music, to the documentary on Eugenio Scalfari directed by Michele Mally, to the one on Marina Cicogna by Andrea Bettinetti. The other strong part of this year's program is represented by the "Close Encounters", which will see protagonists in addition to the two winners Tim Burton and Quentin Tarantino, Jessica Chastain, Marco Bellocchio, Zerocalcare, Claudio Baglioni, Alfonso Cuaron, Luca Guadagnino, the brothers Manetti, Frank Miller, Zadie Smith and Joe Wright.another strong part of this year's program is represented by the "Close Encounters", which will see protagonists in addition to the two winners Tim Burton and Quentin Tarantino, Jessica Chastain, Marco Bellocchio, Zerocalcare, Claudio Baglioni, Alfonso Cuaron, Luca Guadagnino, the Manetti brothers , Frank Miller, Zadie Smith and Joe Wright.another strong part of this year's program is represented by the "Close Encounters", which will see protagonists in addition to the two winners Tim Burton and Quentin Tarantino, Jessica Chastain, Marco Bellocchio, Zerocalcare, Claudio Baglioni, Alfonso Cuaron, Luca Guadagnino, the Manetti brothers , Frank Miller, Zadie Smith and Joe Wright.
