07 October 2021 "Less weapons and more food, less hypocrisy, more transparency, more vaccines and fewer guns". The Pope, at the Colosseum for the international peace meeting organized by Sant'Egidio, alongside the religious leaders of the world traces the road map for a path of peace.

"It is war - thunders - that makes fun of human life. And violence is the tragic and ever prolific arms trade, which often moves in the shadows, fed by underground rivers of money. I want to reiterate that 'war it is a failure of politics and humanity, a shameful surrender, a defeat in the face of the forces of evil. "We must stop accepting it with the detached gaze of the news and try to see it through the eyes of the peoples".

Bergoglio recalls the document on human brotherhood: "Two years ago, in Abu Dhabi, with our dear brother present here, the Grand Imam of Al Azhar, we invoked human brotherhood for peace, speaking in the name of the peoples who have lost their security, peace and common coexistence, becoming victims of destruction, ruins and wars' ". Hence the warning: "We are called, as representatives of religions, not to yield to the lure of worldly power, but to be the voice of those who have no voice, support of the suffering, advocates of the oppressed, of the victims of hatred, rejected by men. on earth but precious before the One who dwells in the heavens. Today they are afraid, because in too many parts of the world, instead of dialogue and cooperation prevailing, military confrontation resumes strength as a decisive tool to impose itself ".

Bergoglio launches a new heartfelt appeal, taking up the document on Brotherhood: "It is our responsibility, dear believing brothers and sisters, to help eradicate hatred from hearts and condemn all forms of violence. With clear words we encourage this: to lay down your arms. , to reduce military expenses to provide for humanitarian needs, to convert the instruments of death into instruments of life. Let them not be empty words, but insistent requests that we raise for the good of our brothers, against war and death, in the name of He who is peace and life. Less weapons and more food, less hypocrisy and more transparency, more vaccines distributed equally and fewer guns sold unwisely. Times ask us to be the voice of many believers, simple and unarmed people tired of violence,so that those who hold responsibility for the common good undertake not only to condemn wars and terrorism, but to create the conditions for them not to flare up ".
