The list of participants is not yet fully nailed down, but the presidents from Romania, Finland, Latvia and Lithuania will come to Malmö, as will the President of the European Council Charles Michel and a delegation from Israel.

The Swedish royal couple is also participating, according to the government.

- The government's ambition with Malmöforum is to strengthen the work to commemorate the Holocaust, fight anti-Semitism and other forms of racism and to strengthen international cooperation in the field, says Minister of Education Anna Ekström (S) at a press conference on Wednesday.

Focuses on four themes

The conference will address four different themes: Remembrance of the Holocaust, education about the Holocaust, anti-Semitism on social media, and the fight against anti-Semitism and other forms of racism.

A joint declaration at the end of the conference is not the goal - instead, each delegation must present what it plans to implement for efforts and measures.

The commitments will then be followed up next year, when Sweden takes over the chairmanship of the organization International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).

In Sweden, the government has already announced, among other things, that a state museum will be established to preserve and pass on the memory of the Holocaust in 2022. An action program to combat anti-Semitism will also be presented next year.

- We can and we must do more to fight anti-Semitism, denial of the Holocaust and how the memory of the Holocaust is distorted.

The government is determined to continue to raise these issues both nationally and internationally, says Anna Ekström.
