Cyclone "Shaheen" threatens Yemen

The Yemeni meteorologist announced, on Tuesday/Wednesday night, that expectations indicate that 6 governorates in the country will be affected indirectly by Cyclone Shaheen.

The Weather Forecast and Early Warning Center of the Meteorological Authority in Aden said, in a warning bulletin on the authority's Facebook page, that "after the evasion of Cyclone Shaheen on the Omani lands, it is expected that Yemen will be affected by a state of atmospheric instability from the remnants of moisture left by the cyclone, accompanied by rains." Thunderstorms across the country.

He stated that "the forecasts indicate rainfall of varying intensity, some of them heavy to very heavy, accompanied by thunderstorms on parts of the mountainous heights and the interior plateaus of the governorates of Al-Mahra, Hadhramout, Shabwa, Abyan, Al-Bayda, Al-Dhale'e, and a series of highlands and western mountain slopes from Lahj and Taiz in the south to Saada in the north."

He added, "Moderate to heavy rains are expected, accompanied by thunderstorms, in parts of the governorates of Al-Mahra and Hadramout, and then on the governorates of Shabwa, Marib and Al-Jawf."

The center stated that "moderate rains are expected to intensify at times, accompanied by thunderstorms in parts of the governorates of Al-Mahra, Hadramout and Shabwa, while the impact on the governorates of Abyan and Aden will begin from Thursday, while the Socotra archipelago will witness cloudy conditions and medium rains that include most of the archipelago."

He warned against "being in the valleys and streams of torrents and walking on slippery mud roads in areas where rain is expected," calling for "not to approach electricity poles, billboards and trees, and to turn off mobile phones during thunderstorms and rain."
