(Biodiversity Conference) The "Road to Rebirth" of Indigenous Fish Species in Yunnan Plateau Lakes

China News Service, Kunming, October 6th, title: "The road to rebirth" of indigenous fish species in Yunnan plateau lakes

China News Agency reporter Du Xiaoxiao

"In the past, there were a lot of anti-wave fish in Fuxian Lake. I didn't want them to disappear, so I tried to make them'swim back' to Fuxian Lake." Yin Shumao has been engaged in the protection of anti-wave fish source for 26 years because of his obsession.

Now in his breeding base, the once-endangered anti-wave fish can reproduce naturally in a simulated wild breeding environment.

Anti-wave fish (Bailang white fish), golden thread barb, big head carp and Dali bow fish in Dianchi Lake are collectively known as the "Four Famous Fish in Yunnan".

Anti-wave fish used to be a rare indigenous fish unique to the plateau lake Fuxian Lake. In the 1980s, due to overfishing and the proliferation of whitebait, the number of anti-wave fish dropped sharply and was close to endangered.

There are 629 species of freshwater fishes in the southern part of the "Animal Kingdom", which account for about 40% of China's freshwater fishes, ranking first in China.

Among them, there are 594 species of indigenous species, but there are 138 species of indigenous fish that are extinct, critically endangered, endangered and vulnerable.

There is a long way to go to protect the indigenous fish in Yunnan.

Yin Shumao’s hometown, Goujie Town, Yiliang County, is only a mountain away from Fuxian Lake. He was heartbroken to see this situation, and returned to his hometown in 1995 to start the work of protecting the source of anti-wave fish.

Initially, fish fry were collected from the fishermen of Fuxian Lake. After wild breeding, artificial domestication and artificial breeding, it has developed to now that the anti-wave fish has realized natural reproduction. At present, more than 120 million high-quality anti-wave fish seedlings can be hatched annually.

In the past 26 years, Yin Shumao has carried out a number of studies, and finally explored the anti-wave fish simulation wild breeding model, according to the fish’s living habits and genetic diversity for natural reproduction, to ensure the purity of the source of the fish, and to ensure the survival rate of the fish. Up to about 90%, the incidence of abnormal fish is zero.

Now, the anti-wave fish hatched by Yin Shumao has "swim back" to Fuxian Lake.

"After observation and experimentation, we found that anti-wave fish can also play a role in purifying water quality and controlling the number of whitebait." Yin Shumao said that his biggest wish is that more Yunnan indigenous fish can "swim back" to their home lake. Here, the realization of water fish farming, fish water purification.

Many people have the same desires as Yin Shumao.

The Chinese government and scientific research institutions have made many efforts in the field of protecting indigenous fish in Yunnan.

In the conservation base of the Key Laboratory of Plateau Fish Breeding in Yunnan Province, there are 60 fish ponds, large and small, in a 23-mu park.

Here, 102 species of unique Yunnan indigenous fishes were collected and transferred to ex-situ conservation bases for conservation research. Dianchi lake golden thread barb and other rare fishes have not only been effectively conserved, but also have been further promoted to the link of sustainable use.

It is understood that the Key Laboratory of Plateau Fish Breeding of Yunnan Province has established a living plateau fish resource bank and genetic resource bank, and carried out species innovation based on this, and created a new species of soft fin Xinguang lip fish, golden thread barb and carp. Distant hybrids.

Now it has reached the annual production capacity of more than 5 million indigenous fish seedlings, which can directly drive the annual output value of characteristic fish to more than 100 million yuan.

"We not only show the results of conservation to the world, we have already embarked on the road from conservation to sustainable use." Yang Junxing, a researcher at the Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the Key Laboratory of Plateau Fish Breeding of Yunnan Province, believes that the conservation of indigenous fish Once integrated with the livelihoods of the people, they will protect them more actively, and sustainable use is the real protection.
