08 April 2019 A 20-year-old English tourist was blocked by the Carabinieri after having removed the tiles of a mosaic inside the Pompeii excavations. The military intervened after being alerted by the custodians who saw the woman removing a dozen pieces from the mosaic floor of the Domus dell'Ancora.



The twenty-year-old - according to reports from Il Mattino - climbed over the curb placed to protect the area, removed the pieces of the precious mosaic, put three in her backpack and ran away. However, gestures seen by the keepers who called the soldiers who intervened shortly before the woman managed to get out of the excavations. For her, the complaint was made in a state of freedom for aggravated damage.



Today the restorers of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii will begin work to put the pieces back in place.
