But the reactions varied.

As we have seen, many became annoyed, perhaps anxious, while others took the network miss with a shrug.

According to psychologist Siri Helle, the reaction to the digital crash can say something about your social media habits.

She believes that the involuntary break can work a bit like an alarm clock, depending on how you reacted to Monday's disturbances.

- If you feel very bad when you can not use social media as a distraction or pastime, it can be an alarm clock that you need to find other outlets for those needs.
