A harsh tone against China, chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan and bad relations with countries that have traditionally been allies.

US President Joe Biden is receiving increasing criticism for pursuing policies that are in many respects similar to his predecessor Donald Trump.

And it is not only Joe Biden's political opponents who make the comparison - but also former allies.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian was furious when the United States bypassed France and signed a submarine agreement with Australia this week.

"This brutal, one-sided and unpredictable decision reminds me a lot of what Trump used to do," Le Drian said.

In that parable, he is supported by his Iranian counterpart, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian.

- President Biden has and still criticizes his predecessor Trump when it comes to Iran.

But at the same time, he continues with the same level of sanctions, Abdollahian said.

White House: "Difficult comparison"

Derrick Johnson, head of the civil rights movement NAACP, also compared Biden to Trump when Haitian migrants were prevented from entering the United States, and in the American media several comparisons have been made between the two presidents when it comes to the tone against China.

Last week, the White House finally met the similarities.

- It is difficult to argue that the president has taken any aspects of the former president's rules of the game and used them as a basis for his own, said White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.

Earlier, another White House spokesman Andrew Bates pointed out that Joe Biden in the quarrel with France was trying to calm the situation instead of stirring up the mood further.

- It is the antithesis of how the previous government handled their constant conflicts with allies.
