During the summer, during checks carried out near the Franco-Spanish border, the authorities arrested a growing number of smugglers from the province of Leida.

Faced with this upsurge, members of the Toulouse border police have decided to step up checks.

This led to the arrest last month of eight Algerian smugglers, holders of Spanish residence permits.

The latter crossed the border by car, with migrant passengers just landed on the Spanish coast.

From each of them, they asked 200 to 500 euros to take them to Matabiau station in Toulouse.

About thirty of them were returned to the border.

The eight smugglers arrested were taken into custody by the border police and their cars were seized.

Brought before the prosecution of Saint-Gaudens, they were tried in recent days in immediate appearance.

They received sentences ranging from four months to one year in prison, accompanied by two to three years of interdiction.
