Seven months after the murder of a 14-year-old schoolboy during a brawl in Essonne, twelve minors were arrested and placed in police custody, the Evry prosecutor's office said on Tuesday.

On February 23, a 14-year-old schoolboy, Toumani, was fatally stabbed in Boussy-Saint-Antoine, during a clash between young people from rival towns.

Another 13-year-old was seriously injured.

A 15-year-old boy quickly surrendered to authorities, posing as the perpetrator of the fatal blow as well as injuries to the second teenager.

He had been indicted for murder and attempted murder.

Six other minors are already being prosecuted for their participation in this case.

The twelve minors placed in custody Tuesday were arrested for participation in a violent group, murder and attempted murder, said the prosecution.

The department of Essonne, in the south of the Parisian suburbs, is particularly affected by this phenomenon of brawls between young people from rival cities, which are becoming more and more violent.

In 2020, according to figures from the Ministry of the Interior, a quarter of the brawls recorded in France took place in Essonne.
