"For me as an author and for co-author Vsevolod Vlasenko, the font" VHUTETYPE "is a time machine, an opportunity to tell or, more precisely, to express my personal love to people who made this style of time, and to grab the Vkhutemas star by the tail, even if for a few seconds", - said Pyotr Bankov.

“The character of the font, as I think, turned out to be Slavic, so rewarding and cheerful.

Yes, as a feature, we made the letters not only uppercase, but also lowercase, a little wild and fundamentally naughty.

Letters of Freedom and Professional Drive! "

The Moscow branch of VKHUTEMAS was founded shortly after the revolution, in 1920, and existed for only ten years. At various times, Alexander Rodchenko, Lyubov Popova, Wassily Kandinsky, Vladimir Tatlin, El Lissitzky, Nikolai Ladovsky, Konstantin Melnikov, Alexey Shchusev, Vladimir Favorsky, Robert Falk and many others taught here. In 1927, VKHUTEMAS was renamed VKHUTEIN (Higher Art and Technical Institute), and in 1930 it was closed. The innovative developments of teachers were erased from the official Soviet history for decades.

Within the framework of the VKHUTEMAS.academy project, it will be possible not only to learn about the dramatic and fleeting history of VKHUTEMAS, but also to feel like a novice designer: the team will present mini-courses and master classes created on the basis of original teaching materials, concepts and theoretical developments of teachers and students of workshops ...

The website of the project, which is being developed in collaboration with one of the best Russian web design studios Red Collar, will be launched in the fall of 2021. Each direction will have its own curator - an expert in historical heritage in the relevant field. The project will collect unique materials stored in personal collections, archives and museums. It will reveal the educational heritage of VKHUTEMAS in a new format: online workshops will provide an opportunity to get acquainted with the works of professors of different directions and students of courses, as well as to feel the creative environment of VKHUTEMAS and its time.
