North Korea fired a projectile presumed to be a short-range missile to the east from the Mupyong-ri area in Jagang Province at around 6:40 this morning, the Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

An official of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said that the missile's flight distance, speed, and altitude are being analyzed in detail.

The missile launch comes 13 days after North Korea fired a short-range ballistic missile into the East Sea from a train on the 15th.

The launch took place three days after Kim Yeo-jung expressed her intention to improve inter-Korean relations and even mentioned the possibility of a summit.

At the time, Kim Yo-jong demanded that North Korea's military actions not be denounced as provocations, and that in order to improve inter-Korean relations, they should not argue with North Korea's military actions.

As a result, there are speculations that North Korea is testing the level of response of the South Korean government.

The Blue House held an emergency meeting of the NSC Standing Committee presided over by National Security Office Director Suh Hoon from 8 am, and expressed regret for the North Korean missile launch at a time when stability in the Korean Peninsula was very important.

After receiving a report on the results of the meeting, President Moon Jae-in ordered that "a comprehensive and thorough analysis of North Korea's recent statements and missile launches should be made to prepare countermeasures."
