This weekend, a new and large nature reserve was inaugurated near the town of Breven's mill.

Plans to build wind turbines near the reserve are known and local protest groups have been formed.

So far, Stena Renewable is at an early stage in the process.

The area with Mörtsjö, which is located in the municipalities of Hallsberg and Finspång, has come the furthest.

- You do a lot of research in a process like this.

We are in the field and make inventories, we consult with local residents, authorities and associations.

As for Mörtsjö, we have invited to a local consultation meeting in Regna bygdegård on October 19, says Pia Hjalmarsson who is project manager at Stena Renewable.

"We take social responsibility"

It was in the spring that Brevens Bruk AB signed a usage agreement with Stena Renewable AB.

Tomas Thuresson, CEO of Brevens Bruk, does not see the fact that there is a nature reserve near the wind farms in question as a problem.

- They do careful research to see if these are good places or not.

They will not build if it is not appropriate.

We have a good conscience that we take a social responsibility that provides land, he says.

Increased expansion

Sweden's goal is for electricity production to be completely renewable by 2040. In order to achieve that goal, it is required, among other things, that wind power is expanded.

According to the Swedish Energy Agency, wind power accounted for 17 percent of Sweden's total electricity production last year.

The largest share is produced in Västernorrland.

But finding suitable places is not always easy, as different interests often conflict.

The sound level is an important aspect as well as shadows from the high works.

- Everything is reviewed in a process like this and tested to limit the impact on people and nature, says Pia Hjalmarsson.
